EA, I love you

Ok, I'm gonna be ranting about EA's choices with FIFA on Wii, 3DS and PS Vita, Madden Wii U and Mass Effect 3 Wii U.

Well it's no wonder you were voted "Worst company to work for" or something. I can't forgive you for the choices you've made in designing FIFA on Wii, but this is just taking the piss. What you did this year was totally unacceptable. You've literally taken last year's game and repackaged it, replacing the 12 and 13 in the title for Wii and PS Vita. Are you SERIOUS? Anybody who bought those games is entitled to a refund - paying full price for a game which is a copy of last year's game bar squad updates?! The PS3, 360 and PC version get those updates - for FREE!

Yes, granted the Wii is on its last legs and you even said that sales are dipping, so you're not gonna make games for it. That's fine. But if that's the case, WHY ARE YOU STILL MAKING FIFA FOR THE PS2? It'll be 2 generations old once the Wii U comes out - 1 month at time of writing. In addition, the games actually look better on the PS2 than the Wii - I fail to see how/why that works. But what confuses me is that you've clearly made the intention of not supporting the Vita. It's not even a year old and its sales are poor, so it needs GAMES! After reading reviews of these games, no-one's gonna buy them! Why can't these stupid companies realise that the better they make their games, the better-received they'll be, providing more of an incentive to buy them, resulting in possibly more sales? Simple economics! Just picturing the faces of those who excitedly shove their game into their system only to find it's a clone of the game they owned last year makes me feel sick!

But you did do a better job this time round with FIFA on the 3DS, which is good. So why, why, WHY is there NO ONLINE? It's nearly 2013 and you won't give an online mode to a game on a system with great online capabilities (Mario Kart 7, Kid Icarus Uprising)? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but even the crappy Vita version has online, and the iOS version. The freakin' iOS version. That version's not even made for consoles! FIFA is a game that relies on online mode for longevity, so why not put it on the 3DS? And to stop putting online on the Wii version was a dick move too.

On the other hand, I am very excited to play FIFA 13 on Wii U. How you've incorporated the GamePad touchscreen controls into the game looks fantastic, and it's nice to see that it looks even remotely like its HD counterparts (though this was to be expected). Small question: Why no Ultimate Team? You've had the dev-kits for like 2 years now, and you couldn't be bothered to include Ultimate Team? It's not gonna deter me from getting the game, but it still would've been a nice touch.

Similarly, there's no Madden Wii U Ultimate Team either. And there's no Infinity Engine for the Wii U version, which was due to time-constraints. I don't buy that at all. For both FIFA and Madden Wii U, it's more like you're rushing to get them out to get your cash quickly and miss out on features you consider insignificant.

Lastly, Mass Effect 3 on Wii U. Woo hoo! A game from Bioware on a Nintendo console! And the price? Oh, £40? Ok. *gasp* What's this? EA are releasing the whole Mass Effect Trilogy on PS3 and 360... For the same price??? Hmm... I'm not even gonna question the stupidity of this idea, but I will point out the fact that the Wii U version will include all DLC and an interactive comic to catch up with the series. But still, it's not the same experience you would have if you actually played the past games, and it would've made so much more sense to put the trilogy on Wii U! UGGGHHHHH! Why should you buy Mass Effect 3 Wii U when you can get a PS3 and 360 for cheaper plus the trilogy for the same price, which would be a lower opportunity cost? That's the question consumers are gonna ask. Come on, use your fucking heads for one moment!

Ok, rant over. I've been putting this off as I'm busy with lots of shit. Agree with me? Disagree with me? Drop me a comment and let me know what you think about EA's decisions. Thanks for reading, and if you're into manga and anime, check out my other blog: www.weeklyjumprankings.blogspot.com , where I post the rankings of the manga that appear in Weekly Shonen Jump.
